Holocene House: Ponds + Natural Pools
The Magic of Holocene House's Landscape
We're thrilled to see Holocene House featured in the August 2025 issue of Landscape Architecture Magazine (LAM). Titled "A Sensory Collage of Water and Stone in Sydney," the article beautifully captures the essence of this beachside suburb retreat, where innovative landscape design harmonises with the natural world. Inspired by freshwater rainforest streams and the iconic Sydney sandstone, the design transforms a suburban site into a lush, immersive oasis.
Our collaboration with landscape architect Duncan Gibbs was pivotal in integrating the mechanical and biological infrastructure seamlessly into the landscape. Gibbs's vision ensures nutrients and sediment are managed with precision, while the running water provides a soothing auditory backdrop—a "really nice sound to the garden," as he aptly puts it.
Equally transformative is our partnership with Land Forms, led by managing director Julien Roy. Their expertise in natural pools delivers crystal-clear, swimmable water without salt or chlorine. This three-part system—prefilter, reed bed filter, and cascading ponds—mimics a thriving ecosystem.
Holocene House exemplifies our commitment to regenerative design, where architecture and landscape coalesce to bring the rainforest home. Discover more in LAM's full article here.
